SHERMAN OAKS, Calif. -- A 23-year-old suspected of California DUI drunken driving was in custody Saturday after crashing into a telephone pole and liquor store in Sherman Oaks, according to California DUI attorney sources.

The first accident occurred when the man drove his white van into a telephone pole in an alley around 12:30 a.m., California DUI lawyers indicate.

After striking the pole, the man drove out of the alley, crossed Van Nuys Boulevard and then crashed into a liquor store located north of Ventura Boulevard, he said. The California DUI driver then backed up his van, proceeded a few blocks down and stopped when he blacked out, California DUI lawyers said.

A short time later, he began driving again and police started following the erratic driver. The California DUI man finally came to a stop on a dirt parkway near Hortense Street and Vista Del Monte Avenue when the van's front tires sustained significant damage, California DUI attorneys said.

The California DUI man was immediately taken into custody and charged in connection with driving under the influence, California DUI attorneys said. His name was not immediately released.

No one was hurt during any of the California DUI accidents but there was significant property damage.
