April 10 California DUI checkpoints in Riverside County & Orange County California

On April 10, 2009, from 6:00PM to 2:00 AM, the Perris Police Department will be conducting a DUI /Driver’s license in the city of Perris. Drivers will be evaluated for being under the influence and their driver’s license status will be checked. This DUI/license checkpoint is being funded by a California Office of traffic Safety (OTS) grant.

The Costa Mesa Police conducted a sobriety checkpoint on April 4, 2009, at Harbor Boulevard and Peterson Place. Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the Business, Transportation, and Housing Agency and is part of a National enforcement campaign.

During the hours of operation, 1,460 vehicles drove through the checkpoint and 496 drivers were screened. Police conducted 22 DUI investigations resulting in 5 DUI arrests. In addition, 8 drivers were cited for driving without driver licenses, 2 for driving on a suspended license, 3 drivers were cited for not having a CDL in their possession and 2 cited for possession of marijuana in their vehicle. A total of 4 other traffic citations were issued for miscellaneous vehicle code violations and 12 vehicles were impounded.

Police will conduct another checkpoint on April 28, 2009. The Costa Mesa Police Department will be teaming up with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.) for the checkpoint. During the checkpoint, there will also be an increased number of officers patrolling adjacent streets in an effort to stop impaired drivers avoiding the checkpoint.
