3 people arrested for California DUI at Poway Drunk Driving Checkpoint last night

Date of Occurrence: 8/13/2010
Time of Occurrence: 7:00 P.M. to 02:30 A.M.
Location of Incident: 16700 block of Espola Road, Poway
SYNOPSIS:
On August 13, 2010, between the hours of 7:00 PM and 2:30 AM, deputies from the San Diego Sheriff’s Department
Poway Station conducted a DUI sobriety and driver safety checkpoint in the 16700 block of Espola Road. The checkpoint
was staffed by approximately 15 DUI trained deputies. The purpose of the checkpoint was to remove impaired and/or
unsafe drivers from the roadway and educate the motoring public; thereby increasing the safety of all drivers. This
operation was in conjunction with other DUI operations being conducted in other local jurisdictions.
Approximately 849 vehicles passed through the checkpoint. Of those 849 vehicles, 36 were directed into the secondary
inspection area for further evaluation. The following enforcement action was taken:
Three (3) arrests were made for DUI
Two (2) arrests were made for drivers with suspended licenses
Six (6) citations were issued for unlicensed drivers
One (1) citation was issued for provisional license violations
Two (2) additional DUI arrests were made by the Poway Sheriff’s Station Units working in the area.
