2010-2011 Winter's New Year's Holiday Weekend DUI arrests & Drunk Driving Checkpoints resulted in a significant number of DUI arrests being made during local traffic enforcement details and special Avoid the 14 DUI deployments in San Diego County.
From December 17, 2010 through Midnight Friday, December 31, 2010 officers representing 14 San Diego county law enforcement agencies have arrested and booked into custody 571 individuals for California DUI.
In 2009, 661 San Diego California DUI arrests and bookings occurred during the same 15 days.
New Year's Eve night, the San Diego California DUI Avoid the 14 taskforce with representatives from the Coronado Police Department, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, National City Police Department, San Diego Harbor Police, Escondido Police Department, SDSU Police Department, UCSD Police Department and representatives from Alcohol Beverage Control conducted a DUI checkpoint in the 1800 block of SR-75 in the city of Coronado. The checkpoint had 760 vehicles pass through it, of which 572 of the drivers were contacted. Twenty-Two (22) of the drivers were sent to secondary where four (4) were evaluated for driving while intoxicated with one (1) arrest made. The driver arrested was a repeat offended who was driving while on probation for a previous DUI conviction. Three (3) drivers were issued citations for minor licensing offenses and one (1) was arrested. Three (3) vehicles were towed during the checkpoint.
